Matt struggled with years of dental issues caused by teeth grinding, leading to broken and worn-down teeth, which affected his ability to smile, eat, and speak confidently. This left him feeling ashamed and embarrassed, carrying the emotional weight of neglect and judgment well into his 60s.
After realizing he didn’t deserve to live with these consequences, he decided to take action to improve his health and well-being, finding a supportive dental team that understood his anxiety and shared his optimism for a successful transformation.
Matt: For me, art came to be a visual expression of my mood and emotion. I think when you feel crappy about yourself and whether it’s as a consequence of and of relationship or bad health or whatever, everything is in dark tones. And here I am 65 when that happened. I’ve lived in my mind all my life, embarrassed, ashamed. It just gets in your head. I don’t even know how to tell you that. Just you know have this thing in you that is a less than. That was the story in my head, was that this was a consequence of neglect and not taking good care of myself. And I didn’t want to be known as that guy.
Tamir Anver: He suffered from a form of grinding his teeth and broken teeth and worn down teeth that didn’t really allow for him to smile or eat foods or chew regularly, or have confidence or speak. And with what he does in a church, all those things are important.
Matt: Doing something like this, by the time you get to our age, you’ve carried a lot of baggage around embarrassment. And it feels weird that you allow this to happen to yourself. And we make up that people are judging us. “Look what you’ve done to yourself and that you don’t deserve to fix it. That you just got to live with the consequences. I just think the healthier I’ve gotten as an individual, I’m going to take the actions I need because I know I didn’t do this. I didn’t do it on purpose, it happened. Because then what it does is it makes room, we’re just more full expressions of the you really are? No matter what your artistry is, it’s individualistic, but it’s an expression of something going on in you. I think between his technical skills, diagnosing, and then the labs actual crafting, I think the teeth are almost like a sculpture. But then it translates into, it becomes a part of you. It is a mechanism that is installed in your person. And maybe, he strikes me as the person that wants to help make a difference in other people’s lives. And so maybe it’s just an expression of his concern.
Tamir: And so you come into the office. Can you walk us through your first initial experience here?
Matt: Just really kind. Clean, nice, comfortable, very personable from the front desk to the text. Everybody just, I had a sense that they knew that I was anxious. And so they had very much that be peaceful attitude. I like it when people know you and call you by name, those respectful. They shared his same optimism. That we want to be a part of your story. We want to be a part of this being successful for you. Do not hesitate, these guys are great.
